Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow Genting Arena Birmingham 28/06/2017

Bit delayed with this but better late than never as they say.

Returning to the Genting Arena almost a year to the day after Rainbow performed a sell out one off gig last June, this time they were back as part of a mini tour of the UK.

Support band Sweet were brilliant, those of us of an *age* will remember their hits Wig Wam Bam, Ballroom Blitz and Block Buster. Apparently they were back in the charts recently thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy! They had the crowd up and dancing, I would definitely go and see them again 🙂

The man of the night though was Ritchie Blackmore, closely followed by singer Ronnie Romero – whom I have previously declared to be a new Rock God and I stand by that still.

There were a lot more Rainbow songs this time round with some Deep Purple thrown in for good measure. Ritchie also performed a tribute to the late Jon Lord, an instrumental piece called Carry On Jon which was featured on a Blackmore’s Night album. There was tribute as well to Ronnie James Dio, footage of him singing Long Live Rock N Roll played on the big screen whilst Romero belted it out on stage.

Excellent concert 🙂
