As you know, my brother got married on Saturday. The weather was amazing and we all had a lovely time. The kids stayed with my In Laws for the day bit, just as well, there was a lot of hanging around and they’d have got bored. The plan was, we would go back home after the speeches and dinner, get the kids changed into their new clothes and go back for the evening do.
When we got home, Sir was asleep.. and he was not happy at being woken up. I did wonder if would actually get back. Then he refused to wear his new clothes, so I put him in something he was comfy with. Madam looked absolutely gorgeous in her dress 🙂
We decided that we would sit outside when we got back to the venue, as it would be cooler and less noisy.. except the courtyard was full of people and a table magician. Madam went to sit with my parents, I took Sir back inside and found one of those sofas that hotels leave placed in strange places, we sat on that and he was happier. A waitress got the kids a drink, Hubby went to the bar for us, and I wondered at my idea of having a beer.. I wasn’t sure we’d be there long enough to drink it. Hubby came in and sat with us, the bride came and sat with us, various grooms men came by and chatted with us, but Sir would not go outside. Then my dad came in and said he’d sit with Sir. Fifteen minutes later, they came wandering outside from another door that must have made it less intimidating for Sir. He sat at the table with another drink and there we stayed for TWO HOURS! we stayed away from the disco as it was very loud and very hot in the marquee. In fact a lot of people were outside as it was a very pleasant evening. Madam took a wander into the disco but decided she didn’t like it.
Given that a wedding evening party is the absolute epitome of sensory overload hell for kids like Sir and Madam, they were absolutely brilliant. I am so glad we gave Sir the time to calm down and sort himself out rather than going home at the first sign of trouble. That was a lesson learned for us… along with next time take the iPads.
