Fragile X Awareness Day 2015 #FragileXtraordinary @fragilexuk #SSAmazingAchievements

What a difference a year makes,
8765 little hours…

Fragile X Awareness Day is here again, doesn’t time fly! there will be lots of facts and figures flying around.. and lots of words that start with f it seems πŸ˜€ but in a nutshell:

Fragile X syndrome is a genetic condition that causes a range of developmental problems including learning disabilities and cognitive impairment. Usually, males are more severely affected by this disorder than females. Affected individuals usually have delayed development of speech and language by age 2″
Fragile X Syndrome – Genetics Home Reference

But that is not what my post is about.

Last year my son was no more ready start High School than I am to fly to the moon. He had not had a good Year 5 for various reasons and all the good work that had been done had come apart.

One year later and he has coped with the change brilliantly.

During this past year he has stayed away from home without us for the first time. he has learnt to sail a boat on his own and he has learned to ride a horse. All of which I might add, I never had the opportunity to do when I was at school πŸ™‚ He is a lot more settled, his speech has improved dramatically, he is sleeping better and not waking up as early, he has more patience and touch wood meltdowns are less frequent.. although they do still happen. He seems more aware that if he does things, there might be consequences. He is more his own person. It’s brilliant πŸ˜€

Now something I never do is post pictures of my kids anywhere on the internet, but I’ve made an exception and splatted his face out. Just this once πŸ™‚
